Get rid of the need for manual maintenance of the initial contents of pg_attribute, by having genbki.pl derive the information from the various catalog header files. This greatly simplifies modification of the "bootstrapped" catalogs. This patch finally kills genbki.sh and Gen_fmgrtab.sh; we now rely entirely on Perl scripts for those build steps. To avoid creating a Perl build dependency where there was not one before, the output files generated by these scripts are now treated as distprep targets, ie, they will be built and shipped in tarballs. But you will need a reasonably modern Perl (probably at least 5.6) if you want to build from a CVS pull. The changes to the MSVC build process are untested, and may well break --- we'll soon find out from the buildfarm. John Naylor, based on ideas from Robert Haas and others

Reduce the need for frontend programs to include "postgres.h" by refactoring inclusions in src/include/catalog/*.h files. The main idea here is to push function declarations for src/backend/catalog/*.c files into separate headers, rather than sticking them into the corresponding catalog definition file as has been done in the past. This commit only carries out that idea fully for pg_proc, pg_type and pg_conversion, but that's enough for the moment --- if pg_list.h ever becomes unsafe for frontend code to include, we'll need to work a bit more. First phase of project to use fixed OIDs for all system catalogs and indexes. Extend the macros in include/catalog/*.h to carry the info about hand-assigned OIDs, and adjust the genbki script and bootstrap code to make the relations actually get those OIDs. Remove the small number of RelOid_pg_foo macros that we had in favor of a complete set named like the catname.h and indexing.h macros. Next phase will get rid of internal use of names for looking up catalogs and indexes; but this completes the changes forcing an initdb, so it looks like a good place to commit. Along the way, I made the shared relations (pg_database etc) not be 'bootstrap' relations any more, so as to reduce the number of hardwired entries and simplify changing those relations in future. I'm not sure whether they ever really needed to be handled as bootstrap relations, but it seems to work fine to not do so now.

Replace int2/int4 in C code with int16/int32 The latter was already the dominant use, and it's preferable because in C the convention is that intXX means XX bits. Therefore, allowing mixed use of int2, int4, int8, int16, int32 is obviously confusing. Remove the typedefs for int2 and int4 for now. They don't seem to be widely used outside of the PostgreSQL source tree, and the few uses can probably be cleaned up by the time this ships.

Do some minor code refactoring in preparation for changing the APIs of find_inheritance_children() and find_all_inheritors(). I got annoyed that these are buried inside the planner but mostly used elsewhere. So, create a new file catalog/pg_inherits.c and put them there, along with a couple of other functions that search pg_inherits. The code that modifies pg_inherits is (still) in tablecmds.c --- it's kind of entangled with unrelated code that modifies pg_depend and other stuff, so pulling it out seemed like a bigger change than I wanted to make right now. But this file provides a natural home for it if anyone ever gets around to that. This commit just moves code around; it doesn't change anything, except I succumbed to the temptation to make a couple of trivial optimizations in typeInheritsFrom().

Phase 2 of pgindent updates. Change pg_bsd_indent to follow upstream rules for placement of comments to the right of code, and remove pgindent hack that caused comments following #endif to not obey the general rule. Commit e3860ffa4dd0dad0dd9eea4be9cc1412373a8c89 wasn't actually using the published version of pg_bsd_indent, but a hacked-up version that tried to minimize the amount of movement of comments to the right of code. The situation of interest is where such a comment has to be moved to the right of its default placement at column 33 because there's code there. BSD indent has always moved right in units of tab stops in such cases --- but in the previous incarnation, indent was working in 8-space tab stops, while now it knows we use 4-space tabs. So the net result is that in about half the cases, such comments are placed one tab stop left of before. This is better all around: it leaves more room on the line for comment text, and it means that in such cases the comment uniformly starts at the next 4-space tab stop after the code, rather than sometimes one and sometimes two tabs after. Also, ensure that comments following #endif are indented the same as comments following other preprocessor commands such as #else. That inconsistency turns out to have been self-inflicted damage from a poorly-thought-through post-indent "fixup" in pgindent. This patch is much less interesting than the first round of indent changes, but also bulkier, so I thought it best to separate the effects.
