9396802f14 more cleanups...of note, appendStringInfo now performs like sprintf(), 
where you state a format and arguments.  the old behavior required
each appendStringInfo to have to have a sprintf() before it if any
formatting was required.

Also shortened several instances where there were multiple appendStringInfo()
calls in a row, doing nothing more then adding one more word to the String,
instead of doing them all in one call.

4140c2f30e Add support for the CASE statement in the rewrite handling. 
Allows (at least some) rules and views.
Still some trouble (crashes) with target CASE columns spanning tables,
 but lots now works.

1e801a8f16 Hi, 
Attached you'll find a (big) patch that fixes make dep and make
depend in all Makefiles where I found it to be appropriate.

It also removes the dependency in Makefile.global for NAMEDATALEN
and OIDNAMELEN by making backend/catalog/genbki.sh and bin/initdb/initdb.sh
a little smarter.

This no longer requires initdb.sh that is turned into initdb with
a sed script when installing Postgres, hence initdb.sh should be
renamed to initdb (after the patch has been applied :-) )

This patch is against the 6.3 sources, as it took a while to
complete.

7b30490bc9 First step done, 
below  is  the patch to have views to override the permission
    checks for the accessed tables. Now we can do the following:

    CREATE VIEW db_user AS SELECT
         usename,
         usesysid,
         usecreatedb,
         usetrace,
         usecatupd,
         '**********'::text as passwd,
         valuntil
        FROM pg_user;

    REVOKE ALL ON pg_user FROM public;
    REVOKE ALL ON db_user FROM public;
    GRANT SELECT ON db_user TO public;

c65ea0e040 New pg_attribute.atttypmod for type-specific information like 
varchar length.

Cleans up code so attlen is always length.

Removed varchar() hack added earlier.

Will fix bug in selecting varchar() fields, and varchar() can be
variable length.

763ff8aef8 Remove Query->qry_aggs and qry_numaggs and replace with Query->hasAggs. 
Pass List* of Aggregs into executor, and create needed array there.
No longer need to double-processs Aggregs with second copy in Query.

Fix crash when doing:

	select sum(x+1) from test where 1 > 0;

542d4e528d First pass through, of many to come, towards making the whole source 
tree "non-PORTNAME" dependent.  Technically, anything that is PORTNAME
dependent should be able to be derived at compile time, through configure
or through gcc

Subject: [HACKERS] linux/alpha patches

These patches lay the groundwork for a Linux/Alpha port.  The port doesn't
actually work unless you tweak the linker to put all the pointers in the
first 32 bits of the address space, but it's at least a start.  It
implements the test-and-set instruction in Alpha assembly, and also fixes
a lot of pointer-to-integer conversions, which is probably good anyway.

28a08fd4ac I have this annoying habit (among others) of putting 
%ud in a printf format strings instead of just %u.

There were three occurances of this in catalog_utils.c,
two in parser.c and one in rewriteSupport.c in the oid
patch that I submitted and was applied.  They won't crash
anything, but the error messages will have a 'd' after the
Oid.  Annoying, but none are db-threatening.

Sorry about that folks...I'll be more careful in the future...
