(.dylib format) on Mac OS X, while not messing up loadable modules for
the backend (which are the same kind of animal as a shared library on
every other platform, but not here). Also get the naming convention
to match OS X practice, viz libFOO.version.so not libFOO.so.version.
In support of that last, refactor code in Makefile.shlib to make it
easier to have platform-specific shlib naming conventions.
This patch is loosely based on the Fink project's current postgresql.patch.
Tested by yours truly on OS X 10.3.4; does anyone have 10.2.* to check
it on?
to ensure any needed compiler support routines are included. This is
arguably appropriate on *every* gcc platform, but for the moment I'll take
the conservative approach of only doing it on a platform where it's
provably useful. Per complaint from Heiko Lehmann, 13-Feb-03, as well
as personal experience --- contrib/pgstattuple has never worked for me,
but it does now.
method. Fix a number of places where shared libraries were linked without
mentioning all the libraries they depend on; the Darwin and AIX ports
are known to require this, and it doesn't seem to hurt any other supported
platforms. (Hence, remove code in pl/tcl makefile that tried to avoid
mentioning other libs if not needed.)

Attached is a patch to fix the mb linking problems on AIX. As a nice side effect
it reduces the duplicate symbol warnings to linking libpq.so and libecpg.so
(all shlibs that are not postmaster loadable modules).
Please apply to current (only affects AIX).
The _LARGE_FILES problem is unfortunately still open, unless Peter
has fixed it per his recent idea.

Eliminate the mysterious games that the Cygwin build plays with the linker
flag variables. DLLLIBS is gone, use SHLIB_LINK like everyone else.
Detect cygipc in configure, after the linker flags are set up, otherwise
configure might not work at all.
Make sure everything is covered by make clean.
Fix the build of the new conversion procedure modules.
Add new DLLIMPORT markers where required.
Finally, the compiler complains if we use an explicit
-I/usr/local/include, so don't do that. Curiously, -L/usr/local/lib is
still necessary.
'make install'; there are enough of 'em that this slowed down the make
noticeably. Ensure that 'all' is the default make target in all these
directories (defaulting to 'make install' is surprising and dangerous
IMHO). Fix a couple small typos.
system, not Tcl-provided one.
Make sure export file, if any, is cleaned.
Tcl configuration is now read directly in configure and recorded in
Makefile.global. This eliminates some duplicate efforts and allows
for easier hand-editing of the results, if necessary.
an already installed iODBC or unixODBC driver manager. In particular,
use the include files provided by the driver manager over our own,
and use the odbcinst library of the driver manager rather than gpps.c.
Migrate portability sections common to several files into psqlodbc.h.
more recent versions of the IBM C++ compiler (now called VisualAge C++).
The C++ part was previously broken (g++ and xlC), thus this is zero risk.
Only AIX specific parts are touched (1 Makefile.shlib line (link with $(COMPILER
) instead
of $(CC) and one shell script line (parameter -C to nm to not demangle C++ symbo
ls for
.exp file)).
I thus ask you to please apply this patch before release.
With or without this patch RC1 on AIX 4.3.2 RS6000 passes "gmake check" for both
the native
compiler vac.C 5.0.1 and gcc 2.95.2 :-)
