Peter Eisentraut 9d402c73ad Expand tests for factorial
Move from int4 to numeric test. (They were originally int4 functions,
but were reimplemented for numeric in
04a4821adef38155b7920ba9eb83c4c3c29156f8.) Add some tests for edge
cases.

Dean Rasheed 13661ddd7e Add functions gcd() and lcm() for integer and numeric types.
These compute the greatest common divisor and least common multiple of
a pair of numbers using the Euclidean algorithm.

Andres Freund 3522d0eaba Deduplicate "invalid input syntax" messages for various types.
Previously a lot of the error messages referenced the type in the
error message itself. That requires that the message is translated
separately for each type.

Note that currently a few smallint cases continue to reference the
integer, rather than smallint, type. A later patch will create a
separate routine for 16bit input.

Tom Lane 06bf0dd6e3 Upgrade src/port/rint.c to be POSIX-compliant.
The POSIX spec says that rint() rounds halfway cases to nearest even.
Our substitute implementation failed to do that, rather rounding halfway
cases away from zero; and it also got some other cases (such as minus
zero) wrong. This led to observable cross-platform differences, as
reported in bug #12885 from Rich Schaaf; in particular, casting from
float to int didn't honor round-to-nearest-even on builds using rint.c.

Implement something that attempts to cover all cases per spec, and add
some simple regression tests so that we'll notice if any platforms still
get this wrong.

Although this is a bug fix, no back-patch, as a behavioral change in
the back branches was agreed not to be a good idea.

Tom Lane 1f7cb5c309 Improve handling of INT_MIN / -1 and related cases.
Some platforms throw an exception for this division, rather than returning
a necessarily-overflowed result. Since we were testing for overflow after
the fact, an exception isn't nice. We can avoid the problem by treating
division by -1 as negation.

Add some regression tests so that we'll find out if any compilers try to
optimize away the overflow check conditions.

This ought to be back-patched, but I'm going to see what the buildfarm
reports about the regression tests first.

Per discussion with Xi Wang, though this is different from the patch he
submitted.

Robert Haas 815810ed31 Attempt to fix breakage caused by signed integer conversion patch.
Use INT_MIN rather than INT32_MIN as we do elsewhere in the code, and
try to work around nonexistence of INT64_MIN if necessary. Adjust the
new regression tests to something hopefully saner, per observation by
Tom Lane.

Robert Haas 4fc115b2e9 Speed up conversion of signed integers to C strings.
A hand-coded implementation turns out to be much faster than calling
printf(). In passing, add a few more regresion tests.

Robert Haas 8d70ed84ba Remove outdated comments from the regression test files.
Since 2004, int2 and int4 operators do detect overflow; this was fixed by
commit 4171bb869f.

Extracted from a larger patch by Andres Freund.

Tom Lane b153c09209 Add a bunch of new error location reports to parse-analysis error messages.
There are still some weak spots around JOIN USING and relation alias lists,
but most errors reported within backend/parser/ now have locations.

Neil Conway f5ab0a14ea Add a "USING" clause to DELETE, which is equivalent to the FROM clause
in UPDATE. We also now issue a NOTICE if a query has _any_ implicit
range table entries -- in the past, we would only warn about implicit
RTEs in SELECTs with at least one explicit RTE.

As a result of the warning change, 25 of the regression tests had to
be updated. I also took the opportunity to remove some bogus whitespace
differences between some of the float4 and float8 variants. I believe
I have correctly updated all the platform-specific variants, but let
me know if that's not the case.

Original patch for DELETE ... USING from Euler Taveira de Oliveira,
reworked by Neil Conway.

Tom Lane 4171bb869f Detect overflow in integer arithmetic operators (integer, smallint, and
bigint variants). Clean up some inconsistencies in error message wording.
Fix scanint8 to allow trailing whitespace in INT64_MIN case. Update
int8-exp-three-digits.out, which seems to have been ignored by the last
couple of people to modify the int8 regression test, and remove
int8-exp-three-digits-win32.out which is thereby exposed as redundant.

Neil Conway e2ded829f6 Revise int2/int4/int8/float4/float8 input routines to allow for
any amount of leading or trailing whitespace (where "whitespace"
is defined by isspace()). This is for SQL conformance, as well
as consistency with other numeric types (e.g. oid, numeric).

Also refactor pg_atoi() to avoid looking at errno where not
necessary, and add a bunch of regression tests for the input
to these types.
