Thomas Munro 4c04be9b05 Introduce xid8-based functions to replace txid_XXX.
The txid_XXX family of fmgr functions exposes 64 bit transaction IDs to
users as int8. Now that we have an SQL type xid8 for FullTransactionId,
define a new set of functions including pg_current_xact_id() and
pg_current_snapshot() based on that. Keep the old functions around too,
for now.

It's a bit sneaky to use the same C functions for both, but since the
binary representation is identical except for the signedness of the
type, and since older functions are the ones using the wrong signedness,
and since we'll presumably drop the older ones after a reasonable period
of time, it seems reasonable to switch to FullTransactionId internally
and share the code for both.

Robert Haas 857ee8e391 Add a txid_status function.
If your connection to the database server is lost while a COMMIT is
in progress, it may be difficult to figure out whether the COMMIT was
successful or not. This function will tell you, provided that you
don't wait too long to ask. It may be useful in other situations,
too.

Robert Haas 86f31695f3 Add txid_current_ifassigned().
Add a variant of txid_current() that returns NULL if no transaction ID
is assigned. This version can be used even on a standby server,
although it will always return NULL since no transaction IDs can be
assigned during recovery.

Tom Lane 09cecdf285 Fix a number of places that produced XX000 errors in the regression tests.
It's against project policy to use elog() for user-facing errors, or to
omit an errcode() selection for errors that aren't supposed to be "can't
happen" cases. Fix all the violations of this policy that result in
ERRCODE_INTERNAL_ERROR log entries during the standard regression tests,
as errors that can reliably be triggered from SQL surely should be
considered user-facing.

I also looked through all the files touched by this commit and fixed
other nearby problems of the same ilk. I do not claim to have fixed
all violations of the policy, just the ones in these files.

In a few places I also changed existing ERRCODE choices that didn't
seem particularly appropriate; mainly replacing ERRCODE_SYNTAX_ERROR
by something more specific.

Back-patch to 9.5, but no further; changing ERRCODE assignments in
stable branches doesn't seem like a good idea.

Heikki Linnakangas 8f9b9590d7 Handle duplicate XIDs in txid_snapshot.
The proc array can contain duplicate XIDs, when a transaction is just being
prepared for two-phase commit. To cope, remove any duplicates in
txid_current_snapshot(). Also ignore duplicates in the input functions, so
that if e.g. you have an old pg_dump file that already contains duplicates,
it will be accepted.

Report and fix by Jan Wieck. Backpatch to all supported versions.

Tom Lane b153c09209 Add a bunch of new error location reports to parse-analysis error messages.
There are still some weak spots around JOIN USING and relation alias lists,
but most errors reported within backend/parser/ now have locations.

Tom Lane 18e3fcc31e Migrate the former contrib/txid module into core. This will make it easier
for Slony and Skytools to depend on it. Per discussion.
