Stephen Frost b1aebbb6a8 Various Coverity-spotted fixes
A number of issues were identified by the Coverity scanner and are
addressed in this patch. None of these appear to be security issues
and many are mostly cosmetic changes.

Short comments for each of the changes follows.

Correct the semi-colon placement in be-secure.c regarding SSL retries.
Remove a useless comparison-to-NULL in proc.c (value is dereferenced
  prior to this check and therefore can't be NULL).
Add checking of chmod() return values to initdb.
Fix a couple minor memory leaks in initdb.
Fix memory leak in pg_ctl- involves free'ing the config file contents.
Use an int to capture fgetc() return instead of an enum in pg_dump.
Fix minor memory leaks in pg_dump.
  (note minor change to convertOperatorReference()'s API)
Check fclose()/remove() return codes in psql.
Check fstat(), find_my_exec() return codes in psql.
Various ECPG memory leak fixes.
Check find_my_exec() return in ECPG.
Explicitly ignore pqFlush return in libpq error-path.
Change PQfnumber() to avoid doing an strdup() when no changes required.
Remove a few useless check-against-NULL's (value deref'd beforehand).
Check rmtree(), malloc() results in pg_regress.
Also check get_alternative_expectfile() return in pg_regress.

Tom Lane 571addd729 Fix unsafe references to errno within error messaging logic.
Various places were supposing that errno could be expected to hold still
within an ereport() nest or similar contexts. This isn't true necessarily,
though in some cases it accidentally failed to fail depending on how the
compiler chanced to order the subexpressions. This class of thinko
explains recent reports of odd failures on clang-built versions, typically
missing or inappropriate HINT fields in messages.

Problem identified by Christian Kruse, who also submitted the patch this
commit is based on. (I fixed a few issues in his patch and found a couple
of additional places with the same disease.)

Back-patch as appropriate to all supported branches.

Fujii Masao 9f80f4835a Add libpq function PQhostaddr().
There was a bug in the psql's meta command \conninfo. When the
IP address was specified in the hostaddr and psql used it to create
a connection (i.e., psql -d "hostaddr=xxx"), \conninfo could not
display that address. This is because \conninfo got the connection
information only from PQhost() which could not return hostaddr.

This patch adds PQhostaddr(), and changes \conninfo so that it
can display not only the host name that PQhost() returns but also
the IP address which PQhostaddr() returns.

The bug has existed since 9.1 where \conninfo was introduced.
But it's too late to add new libpq function into the released versions,
so no backpatch.

Tom Lane 515d2c596c Add display of oprcode (the underlying function's name) to psql's \do+.
The + modifier of \do didn't use to do anything, but now it adds an oprcode
column. This is useful both as an additional form of documentation of what
the operator does, and to save a step when finding out properties of the
underlying function.

Tom Lane d4e6133c68 Revert commit 0725065b37.
The previous commit was intended to make psql show the full path name when
doing a \s (history save), but it was very badly implemented and would show
confusing if not outright wrong information in many situations; for
instance if the path name given to \s is absolute, or if \cd commands
involving relative paths have been issued. Consensus seems to be that
we don't especially need this functionality in \s, and certainly not in \s
alone. So revert rather than trying to fix it up. Per gripe from
Ian Barwick.

Although the bogus behavior exists in all supported versions, I'm not
back-patching, because the work created for translators (by change of
a translatable message) would probably outweigh the value of what is
after all a mostly-cosmetic change.

Kevin Grittner 3bf3ab8c56 Add a materialized view relations.
A materialized view has a rule just like a view and a heap and
other physical properties like a table. The rule is only used to
populate the table, references in queries refer to the
materialized data.

This is a minimal implementation, but should still be useful in
many cases. Currently data is only populated "on demand" by the
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW and REFRESH MATERIALIZED VIEW statements.
It is expected that future releases will add incremental updates
with various timings, and that a more refined concept of defining
what is "fresh" data will be developed. At some point it may even
be possible to have queries use a materialized in place of
references to underlying tables, but that requires the other
above-mentioned features to be working first.

Tom Lane 101d6ae755 Prevent "\g filename" from affecting subsequent commands after an error.
In the previous coding, psql's state variable saying that output should
go to a file was only reset after successful completion of a query
returning tuples.  Thus for example,

regression=# select 1/0
regression-# \g somefile
ERROR:  division by zero
regression=# select 1/2;
regression=#

... huh, I wonder where that output went. Even more oddly, the state
was not reset even if it's the file that's causing the failure:

regression=# select 1/2 \g /foo
/foo: Permission denied
regression=# select 1/2;
/foo: Permission denied
regression=# select 1/2;
/foo: Permission denied

This seems to me not to satisfy the principle of least surprise.
\g is certainly not documented in a way that suggests its effects are
at all persistent.

To fix, adjust the code so that the flag is reset at exit from SendQuery
no matter what happened.

Noted while reviewing the \gset patch, which had comparable issues.
Arguably this is a bug fix, but I'll refrain from back-patching for now.

Tom Lane a563d94180 Standardize naming of malloc/realloc/strdup wrapper functions.
We had a number of variants on the theme of "malloc or die", with the
majority named like "pg_malloc", but by no means all. Standardize on the
names pg_malloc, pg_malloc0, pg_realloc, pg_strdup.  Get rid of pg_calloc
entirely in favor of using pg_malloc0.

This is an essentially cosmetic change, so no back-patch. (I did find
a couple of places where psql and pg_dump were using plain malloc or
strdup instead of the pg_ versions, but they don't look significant
enough to bother back-patching.)

Tom Lane 8525419947 Don't try to trim "../" in join_path_components().
join_path_components() tried to remove leading ".." components from its
tail argument, but it was not nearly bright enough to do so correctly
unless the head argument was (a) absolute and (b) canonicalized.
Rather than try to fix that logic, let's just get rid of it: there is no
correctness reason to remove "..", and cosmetic concerns can be taken
care of by a subsequent canonicalize_path() call. Per bug #6715 from
Greg Davidson.

Back-patch to all supported branches. It appears that pre-9.2, this
function is only used with absolute paths as head arguments, which is why
we'd not noticed the breakage before. However, third-party code might be
expecting this function to work in more general cases, so it seems wise
to back-patch.

In HEAD and 9.2, also make some minor cosmetic improvements to callers.

Alvaro Herrera 08146775ac Have \copy go through SendQuery
This enables a bunch of features, notably ON_ERROR_ROLLBACK. It also
makes COPY failure (either in the server or psql) as a whole behave more
sanely in psql.

Additionally, having more commands in the same command line as COPY
works better (though since psql splits lines at semicolons, this doesn't
matter much unless you're using -c).

Also tighten a couple of switches on PQresultStatus() to add
PGRES_COPY_BOTH support and stop assuming that unknown statuses received
are errors; have those print diagnostics where warranted.
