Tom Lane 59efda3e50 Implement IMPORT FOREIGN SCHEMA.
This command provides an automated way to create foreign table definitions
that match remote tables, thereby reducing tedium and chances for error.
In this patch, we provide the necessary core-server infrastructure and
implement the feature fully in the postgres_fdw foreign-data wrapper.
Other wrappers will throw a "feature not supported" error until/unless
they are updated.

Kevin Grittner 3bf3ab8c56 Add a materialized view relations.
A materialized view has a rule just like a view and a heap and
other physical properties like a table. The rule is only used to
populate the table, references in queries refer to the
materialized data.

This is a minimal implementation, but should still be useful in
many cases. Currently data is only populated "on demand" by the
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW and REFRESH MATERIALIZED VIEW statements.
It is expected that future releases will add incremental updates
with various timings, and that a more refined concept of defining
what is "fresh" data will be developed. At some point it may even
be possible to have queries use a materialized in place of
references to underlying tables, but that requires the other
above-mentioned features to be working first.

Much of the documentation work by Robert Haas.

Robert Haas 3855968f32 Syntax support and documentation for event triggers.
They don't actually do anything yet; that will get fixed in a
follow-on commit. But this gets the basic infrastructure in place,
including CREATE/ALTER/DROP EVENT TRIGGER; support for COMMENT,
SECURITY LABEL, and ALTER EXTENSION .. ADD/DROP EVENT TRIGGER;
pg_dump and psql support; and documentation for the anticipated
initial feature set.

Dimitri Fontaine, with review and a bunch of additional hacking by me.
Thom Brown extensively reviewed earlier versions of this patch set,
but there's not a whole lot of that code left in this commit, as it
turns out.

Magnus Hagander d9bae53173 Implement streaming xlog for backup tools
Add option for parallel streaming of the transaction log while a
base backup is running, to get the logfiles before the server has
removed them.

Also add a tool called pg_receivexlog, which streams the transaction
log into files, creating a log archive without having to wait for
segments to complete, thus decreasing the window of data loss without
having to waste space using archive_timeout. This works best in
combination with archive_command - suggested usage docs etc coming later.

Tom Lane d9572c4e3b Core support for "extensions", which are packages of SQL objects.
This patch adds the server infrastructure to support extensions.
There is still one significant loose end, namely how to make it play nice
with pg_upgrade, so I am not yet committing the changes that would make
all the contrib modules depend on this feature.

In passing, fix a disturbingly large amount of breakage in
AlterObjectNamespace() and callers.

Magnus Hagander 048d148fe6 Add pg_basebackup tool for streaming base backups
This tool makes it possible to do the pg_start_backup/
copy files/pg_stop_backup step in a single command.

There are still some steps to be done before this is a
complete backup solution, such as the ability to stream
the required WAL logs, but it's still usable, and
could do with some buildfarm coverage.

In passing, make the checkpoint request optionally
fast instead of hardcoding it.

Robert Haas 0d692a0dc9 Basic foreign table support.
Foreign tables are a core component of SQL/MED. This commit does
not provide a working SQL/MED infrastructure, because foreign tables
cannot yet be queried. Support for foreign table scans will need to
be added in a future patch. However, this patch creates the necessary
system catalog structure, syntax support, and support for ancillary
operations such as COMMENT and SECURITY LABEL.

Tom Lane 249724cb01 Create an ALTER DEFAULT PRIVILEGES command, which allows users to adjust
the privileges that will be applied to subsequently-created objects.

Such adjustments are always per owning role, and can be restricted to objects
created in particular schemas too. A notable benefit is that users can
override the traditional default privilege settings, eg, the PUBLIC EXECUTE
privilege traditionally granted by default for functions.

Tom Lane 9048b73184 Implement the DO statement to support execution of PL code without having
to create a function for it.

Procedural languages now have an additional entry point, namely a function
to execute an inline code block. This seemed a better design than trying
to hide the transient-ness of the code from the PL. As of this patch, only
plpgsql has an inline handler, but probably people will soon write handlers
for the other standard PLs.

In passing, remove the long-dead LANCOMPILER option of CREATE LANGUAGE.

Alvaro Herrera cec3b0a9e6 Implement DROP OWNED and REASSIGN OWNED. These new commands facilitate the
process of dropping roles by dropping objects owned by them and privileges
granted to them, or giving the owned objects to someone else, through the
use of the data stored in the new pg_shdepend catalog.

Some refactoring of the GRANT/REVOKE code was needed, as well as ALTER OWNER
code. Further cleanup of code duplication in the GRANT code seems necessary.

Implemented by me after an idea from Tom Lane, who also provided various kind
of implementation advice.

Regression tests pass. Some tests for the new functionality are also added,
as well as rudimentary documentation.

Tom Lane efcaf1e868 Some mop-up work for savepoints (nested transactions). Store a small
number of active subtransaction XIDs in each backend's PGPROC entry,
and use this to avoid expensive probes into pg_subtrans during
TransactionIdIsInProgress. Extend EOXactCallback API to allow add-on
modules to get control at subxact start/end. (This is deliberately
not compatible with the former API, since any uses of that API probably
need manual review anyway.) Add basic reference documentation for
SAVEPOINT and related commands. Minor other cleanups to check off some
of the open issues for subtransactions.

dead, it just doesn't know it yet.

Oracle lacks RESTART WITH for some strange reason.

Bruce Momjian c0ad595386 I attach a little patch to make CLUSTER set and reset the indisclustered
bit on the indexes.

I also attach clusterdb and clusterdb.sgml; both of them are blatant
rips of vacuumdb and vacuumdb.sgml, but get the job done. Please review
them, as I'm probably making a lot of mistakes with SGML and I can't
compile it here.

vacuumdb itself is not very comfortable to use when the databases have
passwords, because it has to connect once for each table (I can probably
make it connect only once for each database; should I?). Because of
this I added a mention of PGPASSWORDFILE in the documentation, but I
don't know if that is the correct place for that.
