This commit makes pg_stat_statements support new GUC pg_stat_statements.track_planning. If this option is enabled, pg_stat_statements tracks the planning statistics of the statements, e.g., the number of times the statement was planned, the total time spent planning the statement, etc. This feature is useful to check the statements that it takes a long time to plan. Previously since pg_stat_statements tracked only the execution statistics, we could not use that for the purpose. The planning and execution statistics are stored at the end of each phase separately. So there are not always one-to-one relationship between them. For example, if the statement is successfully planned but fails in the execution phase, only its planning statistics are stored. This may cause the users to be able to see different pg_stat_statements results from the previous version. To avoid this, pg_stat_statements.track_planning needs to be disabled. This commit bumps the version of pg_stat_statements to 1.8 since it changes the definition of pg_stat_statements function. The PostgreSQL contrib tree
---------------------------
This subtree contains porting tools, analysis utilities, and plug-in
features that are not part of the core PostgreSQL system, mainly
because they address a limited audience or are too experimental to be
part of the main source tree. This does not preclude their
usefulness.
User documentation for each module appears in the main SGML
documentation.
When building from the source distribution, these modules are not
built automatically, unless you build the "world" target. You can
also build and install them all by running "make all" and "make
install" in this directory; or to build and install just one selected
module, do the same in that module's subdirectory.
Some directories supply new user-defined functions, operators, or
types. To make use of one of these modules, after you have installed
the code you need to register the new SQL objects in the database
system by executing a CREATE EXTENSION command. In a fresh database,
you can simply do
CREATE EXTENSION module_name;
