Thomas G. Lockhart 58e9267026 Check for bad result from pg_id. A bad result can come from shared library
trouble, and the name of the shared library has been changed recently.
 Had to rerun ldconfig on my machine to get it working again.
Give an error message with a helpful hint if so...

PostgreSQL Data Base Management System (formerly known as Postgres, then

This directory contains the version 6.3.2 release of the PostgreSQL
database server.  The server is not ANSI SQL compliant, but it gets
closer with every release.  After you unzip and untar the distribution
file, look at file INSTALL for the installation notes and file HISTORY
